A look back (but with an English accent).

As 2007 ages closer to it’s death, I (as a music nerd) find myself compiling various mental “best of” lists. Doing so, I wonder what am I forgetting?
It was an interesting year in general, and it seems like a lot of the goodies came out early on. Here are some I’ve been getting into again:
- The New Trust “Dark Is The Path Which Lies Before Us” (Slowdance)
- David Vandervelde “The Moonstation House Band” (Secretly Canadian)
- Menomena “Friend and Foe” (Barsuk)
- Tom Brosseau “Grand Forks” (Loveless)
- Dr. Dog “We All Belong” (Park the Van)
- Trans Am “Sex Change” (Thrill Jockey)
- Helms “Secret Doors” (Plants & Brains)
- Loney, dear “Loney Noir”(Sub Pop)
- Grinderman “s/t” (Anti)
- Rio En Medio “Bride Of Dynamite” (Gnomonsong)
- Laakso “Mother Am I Good Looking?” (V2)
- The Berg Sans Nipple - Along the Quai (Team Love)
- Deerhoof - Friend Opportunity (Kill Rock Stars)
- Jana Hunter “There Is No Home” (Gnomonsong)
- Joanna Newsom “The Ys Street Band” (Drag City)
- The Fucking Champs “IV” (Drag City)
- Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin “seven inch” (Polyvinyl)
- The Avett Brothers “Emotionalism” (Reckless)
Which is like up to mid-07. There’s tons more. Plus all the great reissues and old jams newly discovered (all the Eccentric Soul collections, Neil Young “Live At Massy Hall 1971). It’s been nice re-listening to these gems, because it’s like looking at an old friend all grown up. Check those out, if you haven’t heard any of them.
Am I missing anything? What did you dig on?
